Interview – Alice Bernard, former CAWEB
In the continuity of the interviews with the students, we introduce to you Alice Bernard, a former student of the CAWEB Master’s degree. Like Nicolás Vanegas Uribe, she was also a part of the class of 2020-2021. Today she tells us more about her life as a student, her favorite places in Strasbourg, her plans for the future, and much more!

Your favorite Alsatian dish and drink?
My favorite Alsatian drink is Riesling and my favorite dish, if I remain classic, is tarte flambée.
What is your favorite place in Strasbourg?
I haven’t visited Strasbourg for a long time, but I really liked Place Kléber.
Why CAWEB Master? What characteristics hooked you?
I had previously studied languages and I had a desire to get closer to digital. My passion for UX design and my desire to change cities led me to find the CAWEB Master.
What is your background before CAWEB?
Before joining the CAWEB Master, I did a double bachelor’s degree in economics and languages. I discovered in my second year that the bachelor’s degree in “Quantitative Management Techniques (QMT)” was not for me so I stopped.
What did you do as an apprenticeship?
I was a Community Manager at EOGN (School of officers of the national police force) in Melun. My assignments mainly included the management of social networks and the restructuring of the website. This experience allowed me to be autonomous and more communicative in my work, because I was the only one who really knew how to manage the website and carry out my tasks. However, I was in direct contact with those who had right to modify the website and also with my tutor.
What is your current post?
Currently I am an intern in UX design in a communication agency in Nantes.
What is your best CAWEB student night?
A few days before the lock-down, we went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Because of Covid-19, bars and nightclubs started closing soon after that, and for me, it was my best CAWEB night.
What is your unforgettable moment during the master’s?
This question made me think of a day when we went to the T-com with Mrs. De La Paix in Germany. Some of my colleagues didn’t speak German and it was quite funny.
Who was your sidekick/best friend during your master’s degree?
Gwendoline Hollner was the first person I met in the master’s. Indeed, since I am not from Strasbourg, on the first day of class I arrived 30 minutes early and so did she. Since then, we have had a good relationship that later turned into friendship.
What are your best anecdotes with professors?
We didn’t get to know the professors much, but one anecdote that comes to mind is with the pedagogical coordinator of the CAWEB Master, Ms. Kleinhentz. Indeed, for the presentation of Master 1, we had to make posters and print them out. The day we had to stick them on campus, we realized that we don’t have them. In the emergency, we had to run to print them very late in the afternoon. Then, stick them all over the University campus.
Have you traveled with other students? If so, where and tell us more.
Because of Covid-19, we did not have the opportunity to travel very far. However, we were able to take a hike in the Vosges with some comrades. Despite the floods in the Vosges at that time, we had a very good time together.
What were the difficulties you had to face during your master’s degree?
I had more difficulties during the second year as a digital project manager for the TCLoc Master’s website. Indeed, for this project, we were three students from the CAWEB Master and I found myself, finally, alone because some decided to leave the master’s.
Your suggestions so that we can better help the next caweb students to orient themselves and succeed in their journey?
I think there should be more links between the different subjects of Master 1 and 2. This would allow teachers to know what level the students have acquired. Moreover, in my opinion, it is necessary to separate the students who enter directly the Master 2, without having done the first year of the Master. Indeed, most often we find ourselves facing students who do not have the same level as us. Therefore, the professors are forced to repeat the Master’s course, which demotivates the students.
What are your future plans?
In the short term, I intend to continue to grow in my current position to gain more skills. In the long term, I would like to work abroad as a UX researcher, in a cold country like Canada or Finland.
